Flambeau Mine Archive

Comprehensive Digital Collection of Flambeau Mine Documents (1969-2020+):

Deer Tail Scientific (DTS), Deer Tail Press, and their associates have spent many hours over the years tracking down technical reports and environmental monitoring data for the Flambeau Mine near Ladysmith, Wisconsin – the industry’s so-called “Model Mine” and calling card. Why? As you might suspect, the Flambeau Mine is not all it’s cracked up to be, and we wanted to set the record straight (be it in court or at public hearings) as our way of trying to protect our precious water resources for future generations.

Not everyone can drive over to Ladysmith or Madison like we have over the years to dig through the records of state and local agencies to uncover the real story of what happened at Flambeau – nor should they have to, especially since the work has already been done!

The collection of Flambeau Mine materials provided here consists of: (1) an electronic bibliography (e-Bibliography) listing virtually all of the Flambeau Mine documents amassed by DTS and its associates over the years, organized by topic and electronically searchable; and (2) digital scans of all cataloged items, totaling over 1400 Flambeau Mine documents, diagrams, photos and related items spanning the time period of 1969-2020+. The cataloged items, produced by Flambeau Mining Company, industry consultants, government agencies and other interested parties, were collected, cataloged and scanned by Deer Tail Scientific for educational purposes. Information regarding where to find original copies of all listed items is also provided.
